WOMEN OF BENTSPOKE BREW A NEW BEER TO CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY

The women at BentSpoke Brewing Co have brewed a new beer to celebrate International Womens Day. Brewed onsite at BentSpoke’s Braddon brewpub, the beer aims to celebrate and highlight the contribution of women in the industries in which they operate. While beer may be a male-dominated industry today, history tells us that beer used to be made almost entirely by women. Alewives as they were known, were responsible for making large volumes of beer for their families, selling their surplus at the door. “This beer celebrates the lesser known contributions of women,” said Tracy Margrain, co-owner and brewer. “With that in mind, we’ve decided to name the beer Marion, after Marion Mahony Griffin, the architect who helped shape Canberra, but is often forgotten in the city’s narrative.” Tracy herself is no stranger to brewing. Having brewed for over 3 years, she almost single-handedly keeps the beer at the brewpub flowing – no easy feat! The beer is an as yet unrevealed style and features The Pink Boots Society’s Hop Blend. The Pink Boots Society was created to assist, inspire and encourage women beer industry professionals. Marion, BentSpoke’s International Women’s Day beer will launch at the brewpub on Sunday, 8 March.
