BentSpoke sensitively disposing with plastic straws!
Canberra???s BentSpoke Brewing Co has joined the ACT Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability Shane Rattenbury to launch the ???Straws Suck??? campaign in Canberra.
BentSpoke had previously used around 4,000 disposable plastic straws every year.
Prompted by the staff-lead internal sustainability working group the popular BrewPub has now switched to using re-usable stainless-steel straws for those customers who, for whatever reason, need that extra help with drinking out of a glass.
???Our reliance on single-use plastic is having devastating impacts on our planet,??? Shane Rattenbury said.
???An estimated 10 million straws are used in Australia every day. As a soft plastic, they can take up to 200 years to break down and can end up polluting our waterways and harming wildlife.
???That???s why we???re encouraging Canberra businesses to make a pledge to reduce the number of plastic straws they provide customers as part of the ???Straws Suck??? campaign.???
BentSpoke co-owner and brewer Tracy Margrain said the brewery was thrilled to be joining the campaign.
???As brewers we rely on the natural environment for the ingredients that make our beers,??? Margrain said. ???It???s a small change for us to make but will really reduce the amount of soft plastic waste we generate.???
